Residence
Weston, Connecticut
The owners of a contemporary lake-side residence on a steeply sloped site needed to integrate thoughtfully a new five car garage into their property. The new entry courtyard accomplishes several objectives: connects the house to the garage by reorienting the main entry, draws people towards the views and stairs leading to the lake, reduces the scale of the paved areas, and unifies the composition by respecting the contemporary architecture. Extensive plantings relate to the surrounding landscape. Invasive trees were removed from a sloped, wooded area and replanted to provide canopy and understory plants, and two terraces at the rear of the house provide areas to enjoy the lake view.
