Immaculate Conception Elementary School Play Area
The Bronx, New York
The design of a play area from an abandoned site incorporates existing topography and remnant structures to create an amphitheater, astrological pavement design and an open play area for preschool through fifth grade children. Off- the-shelf items such as yellow, red and blue chain link fence were used to create elements such as a zig-zag boundary fence, and a red flag structure at the top of the existing mound. An amphitheater created from logs felled from the site creates a shady, welcome gathering place at the far end of the site.
The project was completed in collaboration with Katie Winter, Architect.
