Residence
Darien, Connecticut
The new house has an 18th century street facade, transitioning to more modern floor to ceiling glass facades along the back yard and courtyard space. The concept establishes three zones: A vernacular landscape occupies the front of the house, including a stone wall, old-fashioned plants and old stone walks. The second zone, the backyard, begins with a raised courtyard space including a koi pond and a trellis of salvaged lumber. Stepping down from the court, one enters an open lawn surrounded by meadow plantings that adopt the open, modern character of the rear of the home. Finally, a restored wooded knoll terminates the view from the house and offers a vantage point to look back at the house.. With Beinfield Architecture, PC.
