Our Philosophy We create landscape architecture solutions that maintain the oath of stewardship of natural resources and provide inspiration with thought provoking and contextually relevant design. Our resources for inspiration are the outstanding built works of human history from ancient aquaducts, terraced hillsides and the City of Sienna, Italy to the gardens of Versailles and Olmsted's Prospect Park. These works have principals that can be applied to contemporary landscapes, culture and environment. Our office has provided dedicated, hands-on service to private and municipal clients in the Northeastern United States. We thrive on providing design solutions that respond to and fuse the complex mixture of urban, natural, and multicultural communities that is our region. Our range of work includes public parks, residential design, school facilities, playgrounds, restored natural ecosystems and reclamation areas. As designers, we seek to understand the essence of place and to respond with fundamental design gestures that strengthen that sense of place. Our designs bridge the gap between contemporary culture and the traditional built world, in which we live. Our work is informed by a sense of history and our design process is sculpturally and conceptually based.

One of the two founding partners, Nick brings 17 years professional landscape architecture experience encompassing prestigious urban waterfront open space, playground and sports facilities, refined residential landscapes, and native habitat restorations of public parklands. He holds licensure in New York State and Connecticut, and is certified by the Council of Landscape Architecture Registration Board. |
Nicholas Overall | Nick's rigorous project methodology insists that design and construction are both considered at the outset of a project to ensure a project's successful completion and enduring lifespan. Nick's knowledge of innovative sustainable construction systems were essential to the success of the ASLA Connecticut Chapter honor awarding “The Lot” Project in New Haven, Connecticut. Significant past projects include storm water management projects within existing riparian corridors of Staten Island for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection; the design of multiple parks for New York City Department of Parks; school playground designs for New York City (Blumberg and Butter P.C.), and the Hoboken Waterfront Park (Arnold/Wilday Joint Venture). Dorothy has 11 years experience in both private and public work. She holds a Masters degree from the University of Virginia with and undergraduate degree in art and art history. Her love of and dedication to painting and sculpture, her interest in architecture and her fascination with the Earthworks Artists of the 1960's to 1970's led her to pursue a graduate degree in Landscape Architecture, seeing it as a unique opportunity to work in a field as both an Artist and an Architect. |
Dorothy Bothwell | Her past experience includes working as a lead designer for New York City Parks Department, where her parks include such design elements as cutting and transporting three twenty ton ledge stones from Northern Vermont to a small corner park in Queens (Woodside Park). The ledge stones help to create a psychological separation between a very noisy street and a more quiet, gardenesque side of the park. In Unity Park in the South Bronx, she designed a grass stage with a 25 foot long fountain beside it which explored the chanelized rivers of the Bronx and the fish that once swam there. Other projects include the Owls Head Slope restoration in Brooklyn and the Staten Island Botanical Garden. She also worked as a designer for Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates for two years. Projects include the Polly Hill Arboretum on Martha's Vineyard, various residences on Martha's Vineyard, and the Allegheny Riverfront Park in Pittsburgh.
